SAFEGUARDING PROGRAM

saving word

The Safeguarding Project was initiated in April 2014 by Archbishop Timothy Costelloe in response to the Royal Commission into Institutional Child Sexual Abuse. The All Saints Parish has been asked by the Safeguarding Program Coordinator for the Perth Catholic Archdiocese to complete an audit of those in our community who engage in either paid or unpaid (voluntary) work with children. Evidence required for the audit includes a copy of a current Working With Children Check (WWCC). It is not only required by the Safeguarding Project but also a legal requirement in Western Australia.

The following paid or unpaid (voluntary) roles within our Parish are required to supply evidence of their WWCC

Acolyte, Altar Server (Aged 18+ years), After School Care, Catechist, Choir Leader (if any members are not their own children), Children’s Liturgy Leader, Educational Assistant, Parish Priest, Visitor, Special Eucharistic Minister, School Teacher.

Any person fulfilling any of the above roles within the Parish, who has not already done so, must immediately supply a copy of their WWCC or receipt of application to the Parish Office or be removed from all rosters. All those working in Liwara Catholic Primary School will already have compiled through the school screening process so there is no need to do anything further.

In addition to this requirement the Archdiocesan Plan 2016 - 2021 focuses on seven key priorities. Professional Standards is one of these of which the Safeguarding Program is part of. The Safeguarding Program is child-focused and informed by the fundamental belief that children have the right to physical and psychological safety at all times and we, the Catholic Archdiocese of Perth, must play our part in protecting all children and vulnerable individuals.

The Safeguarding Program Handbook details the policies and procedures for safeguarding within all parishes of the Perth Catholic Archdiocese. As a volunteer/church worker at All Saint’s Greenwood Parish this handbook is being made available to you (See download link below) for your information and records. There is also relevant information available to you on the Perth Catholic Archdiocese website:

http://perthcatholic.org.au/Organisations__Services-Safeguarding.htm

Can you please read the handbook and return signed copies of FORM 2 and FORM 18 to either the Parish Office or the Box Provided in the Sacristy by August 1st, 2017. Signed copies of the forms are a requirement to support your ongoing role within the parish.

Many of you will have signed a FORM 2 last year. If you are certain you did and it was handed into the Parish Office you do not need sign a FORM 2 again. You will still be required to sign the FORM 18. The best course of action would be to sign the revised declaration as well as the FORM 18. This will be an ongoing requirement when Safeguarding Handbook is revised in the future.

We thank you for your support of the safeguarding program and appreciate the great work you all do in our parish. If you have any queries regarding the handbook information or wish to discuss prior to signing the forms, please do not hesitate to contact us to arrange a time to meet and discuss.
